    Resinous polymer sheet material having surface decorative effects. The material is made by applying to a potentially foamable resinous composition (16) a printing composition layer (18) forming a pattern and then applying to said printing composition layer a resinous polymer wear layer (22) having therein reactive polymerizable and cross-linkable monomeric materials. There is included in areas (20) of the sheet material a polymerization initiator, preferably dicumylperoxide, capable of initiating a polymerization and cross-linking reaction of the monomeric materials, and the surface of the wear layer is heated in order to develop the foam, preferably also mechanically embossed, and to bring about such reaction at the areas of the polymerization initiator. The melt viscosity of the wear layer at said areas is thereby increased so that said areas will have a different appearance than the other area of said wear layer.

    A process for preparing polymer-encapsulated dispersed non-monomer solids, such as, polymer-encapsulated pigments. Water, a pigment, a nonionic protective colloid or stabilizing agent, and a portion of a nonionic monomer having at least one monovalent unsaturated organo moiety are admixed. The pigment has a minimum of surface charge. A nonionic polymerization initiator is added to the admixture and the admixture is heated to begin the polymerization of the nonionic monomer. A nonionic catalyst and the remainder of the nonionic monomer are added to the admixture. The polymerization is allowed to proceed to finality or the desired degree. A polymer-encapsulated pigment dispersion is obtained.

    Class of high performance thermosetting materials composed of polyarylene polyether resins having each of their ends capped with a monovalent unsaturated organo radical. The end-capped polyarylene polyether resins have the formula: wherein Z and Z' are each a monovalent unsaturated organo radical. Usually Z and Z' are alkylene, aralkylene or cycloalkylene moieties. The end-capped polyarylene polyethers can be cured as is or in the presence of one or more unsaturated comonomers to afford homopolymers or copolymers, respectively. Such cured systems exhibit high glass transition temperatures, good tensile properties, excellent electric and alkali resistance and improved stress cracking resistance. End- terminated polysulfone resins having molecular weight of 5,00 to 15.000 are especially advantageous. The properties exhibited by the vinyl/allyl terminated oligomers are useful in fields which require high temperature performance, excellent solvent resistance and good fabrication characteristics. Specific areas of application include high performance molded products for appliances and electronics, high temperature laminates and adhesives and protective and insulative coatings.

    Hydroxy-t-alkyl peroxyesters having the general structure where R, R1, R2, R, and R4 can be alkyl moieties and having 10 hour half-life temperatures below about 75°C (for example, 3-hydroxy-1,1-dimethylbutyl peroxy-neodecanoate) are described. These peroxyesters are used as initiators for vinyl monomer polymerization and as catalysts for curing unsaturated polyester resins in order to improve the efficiency of the systems.
