    A feed additive for ruminant prepared by dispersing an active substance such as amino acids or vitamins in a protective substance mainly comprising metallic salts of fatty acid mixtures and granulating the dispersion and employed to allow the active substance to by pass the rumen to be digested and absorbed in the abomasum and the subsequent stomachs. It now becomes possible to well balance the active substance between the capability of by passing the rumen and the digestibility and absorbability in the abomasum and the subsequent stomachs.

    A feed additive composition containing a biologically active substance which is stable in the rumen of ruminants while allowing its efficient digestion and absorption in the abomasum and its subsequent digestive tract is provided. The feed additive composition for ruminants according to this invention is characterized in that a core which contains a biologically active substance is coated with a coating composition which contains at least a) and b) below. a) at least one substance selected from the group consisting of linear or branched saturated or unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acids of 12-22 carbon atoms or salts thereof, hardened vegetable fats and oils, hardened animal fats and oils and wax; and b) a substance indicated in i) and/or ii) below. i) one or more linear or branched saturated or unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acids or 11 carbon atoms or less, and ii) one or more substances selected from the group consisting of nucleic acids, nucleotides, nucleosides, bases composing nucleic acids and salts thereof.

    A novel phosphoric acid-amino acid complex salt is provided which manifests insolubility in a neutral or alkaline aqueous solution and solubility in an acidic aqueous solution and has a basic amino acid, an alkaline earth metal, and phosphoric acid as main components thereof. An additive composition containing the complex salt and used in a feed for ruminant mammals excels in protection in the first compartment of the stomach of a ruminant mammal and solubility in the fourth compartment of the stomach. This additive composition improves the nutrition of the feed with respect to such a basic amino acid as lysine, a substance frequently missing in the feed for ruminant mammals.

    Disclosed herein are a ruminant feed additive composition containing (A) lysine magnesium phosphate, (B) magnesium oxide, (C) a binder and (D) water, said water content being between 5 and 15% by weight, and a process for producing the same. Such ruminant feed additive composition is an example of the ruminant feed additive composition where, when a ruminant feed additive contains a physiologically active substance, the physiologically active substance is fully protected in the rumen of a ruminant and rapidly dissolved in the abomasum, and which can easily be granulated by an extrusion-granulating method and the like. Disclosed herein is also a process for producing a ruminant feed additive composition, which comprises uniformly mixing (a) lysine magnesium phosphate, (b) magnesium oxide, (c) a meltable binder and (d) water required for extrusion granulation, subjecting this mixture to extrusion granulation at a temperature at which the meltable binder is not deteriorated, or uniformly mixing (a) lysine magnesium phosphate, (b) magnesium oxide and (c) a meltable binder, feeding this uniform powder mixture to an extrusion granulator for granulation while blowing (d) water before the die, drying the resulting granules under such conditions that the water contained therein is released as water vapor to render porous the structure of the particles and at the same time the pores are dipped with the molten binder present, and coating the surface of the dry particles with a coating agent, and a process for producing a ruminant feed additive composition, which comprises uniformly mixing (a) an amino acid, (b) an oily binder having a melting point of 40°C or more and (c) water required for extrusion granulation, and extrusion-granulating this mixture at the molten temperature of the above-mentioned oily binder, or uniformly mixing (a) an amino acid and (b) an oily binder having a melting point of 40°C or more, feeding this uniform powder mixture to an extrusion granulater at the molten temperature of the above-mentioned oily binder for granulation while blowing (c) water before the die, drying the resulting particles, and coating the surface of the dry particles with an oily coating agent to form the particles having a porosity of 20% or less, each providing a ruminant feed additive composition product of which the biochemical and physical properties (protection in the rumen and dissolution in the abomasum) are per se excellent, and which can be easily produced.

    The present specification discloses a ruminant feed additive composition which contains as an active ingredient a phosphoric acid-amino acid-polyvalent metal composite salt (final composite salt) which is insoluble in neutral or alkaline water and is soluble in acidic water and which can be obtained by treating a composite salt composed of a basic amino acid, magnesium and phosphoric acid with a salt of a divalent or trivalent (polyvalent) metal other than magnesium, or by treating the above-mentioned composite salt with the polyvalent metal salt and a condensed phosphoric acid component (alone) or the condensed phosphoric acid component and a phosphoric acid component (in combination), this composition taking the form of a powder or granules. The above-mentioned final composite salt can exhibit the excellent stability to neutral or slightly acidic water, namely, the low solubility therein in comparison with the intermediate composite salt, and it can have both the excellent insolubility of the basic amino acid in a rumen of a ruminant and the excellent elution thereof in an abomasum and lower digestive organs.
