Optically pure samples of (+)- and (–)-benzo[a]pyrene 7,8-oxide have been synthesized from the separated diastereoisomers of trans-8-bromo-7-menthyloxyacetoxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzo[a]pyrene.
