    A method of evaluating electrophotographic overcoatability of a composition is provided. The method includes measuring a color (C 1 ) of a toner image fixed on a sheet, dropping the composition on the toner image, and removing the composition from the toner image. The method further includes measuring a color (C 2 ) of the toner image from which the composition has been removed, and calculating a color difference between the color (C 1 ) of the toner image and the color (C 2 ) of the toner image on which the composition is dropped and from which the composition is removed thereafter.

    Disclosed is a decolorable toner produced by aggregating dispersed fine particles of a color material containing at least a color-forming compound, a color-developing agent and a decoloring agent with dispersed fine particles containing at least a binder resin having a carboxyl group, then adding a compound having a carbodiimide group or an epoxy group reactive with the carboxyl group of the binder resin, and thereafter fusing the aggregate particles, respectively in an aqueous medium. The thus obtained decolorable toner can suppress the generation of fine powder by the release of erasable color material fine particles from the toner particles.

    Disclosed is a decolorable toner produced by aggregating dispersed fine particles of a color material containing at least a color-forming compound, a color-developing agent and a decoloring agent with dispersed fine particles containing at least a binder resin having a carboxyl group, then adding a compound having a carbodiimide group or an epoxy group reactive with the carboxyl group of the binder resin, and thereafter fusing the aggregate particles, respectively in an aqueous medium. The thus obtained decolorable toner can suppress the generation of fine powder by the release of erasable color material fine particles from the toner particles.

The toner contains a hyperbranched polymer which is a homopolymer formed using an inimer having, in its molecule, a polymerizable functional group and a polymerization initiating group or is a copolymer formed using the inimer and a vinyl-based monomer. The hyperbranched polymer is preferably a terminal-modified hyperbranched polymer and is preferably obtained by a living radical polymerization process.
