  Dichloroamino acid derivatives having the formula: wherein H1 and R2 are independently (a) lower alkyl; (b) lower cycloalkyl; (c) lower (cycloalkyl-alkyl); (d) phenyl or lower alkyl-substituted phenyl; (e) halosubstituted phenyl; (f) lower alkoxy-substituted phenyl; (g) phenyl (lower alkyl); or R1 and R2 joined together form lower alkylene; and Z is (a) lower alkylene; (b) -(CH2)n-phenylene-(CH2)m- wherein n and m independently are integers from 0 to 5; (c) (d) (e) -(CH2)n+1-O-(CH2)m-; wherein n is an integer from 0 to 3 and m an 0-20; (f) or (g)- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof are prepared from chlorination of corresponding amino acids, and are found to be potent germicidal and fungicidal agents.
