A one-pot sequential Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) strategy is presented for the synthesis of constitutionally unsymmetrical cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene)-based rotaxanes in good yields from simple starting materials.
