    New ultrasound contrast agents that comprise microbubbles encapsulating a gas within a shell made from a blend of bipolar compounds having mixed carbon chain length. The compounds have hydrophobic groups selected from the group consisting of straight-chained alkyls, alkylethers, alkylthiolethers, alkyldisulfides, polyfluoroalkyls, and polyfluoroalkylethers having a carbon chain length greater than or equal to 16 and less than or equal to 32. The polar groups are connected to the hydrophobic groups by means of a linker. The polar head groups are selected from the group consisting of CO 2 -M + , SO 3 − M + , SO 4 − M + , PO 3 − M + , PO 4 − M + 2 , N(R) 4 + , a pyridinium or substituted pyridinium group, and a zwitterionic group; R is selected from the group consisting of —H, —CH 3 , alkyl, cycloalkyl, substituted cycloalkyls containing one or more heteroatoms, and benzyl and can be the same or different; and Z′ is a nonionic and M is a cation.

    An irreversible heat-sensitive composition comprises a mixture of a granular or powdery heat-fusible substance having a melting point corresponding to a temperature to be recorded and a granular or powdery dyestuff diffusible into the fused heat-fusible substance through dispersion or dissolution. A heat-sensitive ink comprises the irreversible heat-sensitive composition and an ink vehicle capable of diffusing the fused heat-fusible substance therein. A heat-sensitive ink according to another embodiment comprises microcapsules, which encapsulate the irreversible heat-sensitive composition. A heat-sensitive indicator comprises a substrate provided thereon with a printed heat-sensitive ink, the heat-sensitive ink being one of these heat-sensitive inks.

    An absorbable resin, for which a large amount of a plant-derived raw material can be used, and which has an excellent capability of absorbing an aqueous liquid, and has a good gel modulus and therefore can exhibit an excellent absorbing capability under pressurized conditions; and an absorbable composition. An absorbable resin produced by binding an oxidized polysaccharide (A1) having a carboxyl group which may be neutralized with a neutralizing agent and/or a crosslinked product thereof (A2) to a poly(meth)acrylic acid (B1) in which at least one carboxyl group may be neutralized with a neutralizing agent and/or a crosslinked product thereof (B2); or an absorbable composition produced by mixing the component (A1) and/or the component (A2) with the component (B1) and/or the component (B2). The component (A1) has a weight average molecular weight of 2,000-10,000,000. The component (A1) has an acid value of 65-850 mgKOH/g. When the component (A1) has a carboxyl group which is neutralized with a neutralizing agent, the acid value of the component (A1) before the neutralization is 65-850 mgKOH/g.
