The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of an epoxyethyl carboxylate or glycidyl carboxylate, including reacting a vinyl carboxylate or an allyl carboxylate using an oxidant and a water-soluble manganese complex in an aqueous reaction medium, and the water-soluble manganese complex comprises an oxidation catalyst, characterized in that the water-soluble manganese complex is a mononuclear species of the general formula (I): [LMnX3]Y, or a binuclear species of the general formula (II): [LMn(μ-X)3MnL]Yn, wherein Mn is a manganese; L is a ligand and each L is independently a polydentate ligand, each X is independently a coordinating species and each μ-X is independently a bridging coordinating species, Y is a non-coordinating counter ion, and wherein the epoxidation is carried out at a pH in the range of from 1.0 to 7.0.

The present invention is directed to a hydrophilic transparent plastic slide for a microscope and a method for preparing the same. This slide is characterized in that at least one surface of the slide is rendered hydrophilic so that a staining solution which is generally used in microscopic examination may not be repelled thereon. Further, according to the present invention, the plastic slides can be manufactured by providing at least one surface of each slide with a hydrophilic layer of silicon oxide, a polysaccharide or the like.

There are provided a novel curable polyester, a cured product thereof, and a process for preparing the same, as well as a resist composition and a jet Printing ink composition comprising the curable polyester, curing methods and uses thereof. The curable polyester of the present invention has a polyester skeleton as a main chain and also has an oxetanyl group at the molecular end. The curable polyester of the present invention is excellent in curability and has excellent flexibility, adhesion and mechanical strength, and also exhibits high safety to the human. The resist composition containing a novel curable polyester having an oxetanyl group at the molecular end of the present invention is suitable for a solder resist for forming a pattern with high accuracy or an interlayer insulation film because neither bleeding after screen printing nor sagging upon heat curing occurs, and the jet printing ink composition containing a novel curable polyester having an oxetanyl group at the molecular end of the present invention is suitable for a solder resist or an interlayer insulation film, which is excellent in line width retention of a thin line pattern because neither bleeding nor sagging upon heat curing occurs.
