Cd), 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid (m-H2BDC), and ethyl viologen cation (EV2+ = 1,1′-bis(ethyl)-4,4′-bipyridinium dication) leads to two new host-guest MOFs (EV)0.5[TM1.5(m-BDC)2]}n (1, Zn; 2, Cd), of which TM1.5(m-BDC)2]2- acts as host anion and EV2+ acts as guest cation.
