Polyethylene glycol was found to be an inexpensive, non-toxic, recyclable and an effective medium for the synthesis of thiohydantoin derivatives in the presence of K2CO3 as the catalyst. The procedure is operationally simple and environmentally benign.

This invention provides the antibacterial compounds of the formula (I):
