The synthesis of new coloured anthryloxymethanes is described; they are reversibly transformed upon ir adiation into their colourless photocyclomers. Their high photoreactivity. accompanied by a weak fluorescence and short singlet excited lifetimes, originates in the great flexibility of the OCH2O spacer.
