Phosphine-mediated annulation of N-protected imines with DEAD

In the presence of triphenylphosphine, the reactions of N-protected imines or their precursors with DEAD proceeded smoothly to give the corresponding functionalized 1H-1,2,4-triazole-1,4(5H)-di-carboxylate derivatives in good to high yields under mild conditions. Friedel-Crafts reaction of indoles with alpha-amido sulfones in the presence of montmorillonite K-10 leads unexpectedly to 3-(1-arylsulfonylalkyl) indoles in good yield. The obtained products can be further desulfonylated under reductive or alkylative conditions giving linear and branched 3-substituted indoles.

Bismuth triflate was found to be an efficient catalyst in the Sakurai reaction of allyltrimethylsilanes with N-alkoxycarbonylaminosulfones. The reaction proceeded smoothly with a low catalyst loading of Bi(OTf)3⋅4 H2O (2–5 mol%) to afford the corresponding protected homoallylic amines in very good yields (up to 96%).
