  PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a halogenated arylidenefluorene derivative useful as a production intermediate for synthesizing a π-conjugated polymer for organic electronics.

  SOLUTION: A phosphorus-containing fluorene compound is reacted with a carbonyl compound to thereby synthesize the halogenated arylidenefluorene derivative in which the conjugation is extended.
