Oxidation of [NR4][PdLX3] with the corresponding halogen (X2) in carbon tetrachloride gave octahedral palladium(IV) anions [NR4][PdLX5][L = py (pyridine), AsEt3, SMe2, or SeMe2, X = Cl or Br; L = NMe3, PPh3S, or PPrn3, X = Cl; L = PEt2Ph, X = Br]. Attempts to prepare analogues with L = SbMe3, TeMe2, or dmso (dimethyl sulphoxide) failed. Neutralpalladium(IV) complexes trans-[PdL2X4](L = NMe3, py, PPrn3

[MCl2L′}2] species are obtained [M = PtII or PdII; L′= HS·CH2·CH2·NH·C⋮N and HS·CH:CH·NH⋮N. The combined presence of the metal and hydroxide ions appears to induce the ring opening and rearrangement of the amineligands.

Two macrocyclic tetralactam receptors are shown to selectively encapsulate anionic, square-planar chloride and bromide coordination complexes of gold(III), platinum(II), and palladium(II). Both receptors have a preorganized structure that is complementary to its precious metal guest. The receptors do not directly ligate the guest metal center but instead provide an array of arene π-electron donors
