A CuI-catalyzed cross-coupling of alkyl- and phosphorus-centered radicals for C(sp3)–P bondformation is introduced. Diacyl peroxides, generated in situ from aliphatic acids and H2O2, serve as a source for alkyl radicals and also an initiator for the generation of phosphorus radicals from H–P(O) compounds.

Photocatalyzed reductive diphosphination of alkenes was realized for the synthesis of both aryl and alkyl 1,2-bisphosphines from readily accessible alkenes and chlorophosphines. The Janus-faced chlorophosphine act as not only a radical precursor to generate phosphine-centered radicals but also a radicalphile to capture alkyl radicals, which served as an ideal phosphine source for alkene diphosphination
