The reactions of phenyltellurium(VI) fluorides, PhTeF5, trans-Ph2TeF4 and mer-Ph3TeF3, with alcohols and amines, or their trimethylsilyl derivatives, are described. The products PhTeF4X, Ph2TeF3X and Ph3TeF2X (X=OMe, NMe2, NEt2 were characterized by 19F NMR and isomeric structures are assigned on the basis of their NMR spectra. Samples of trans-Ph2TeF4 contain small amounts of cis-Ph2TeF4.

An SF5− salt containing a chemically inert phosphonium ion proved to be a powerful oxidative fluorination reagent for the generation of fluorinated selenium and tellurium anions, derived from the elements or the diphenyl dichalcogenides.
