The translation of olefin metathesis reactions from the laboratory to process scale has been challenging with traditional batch techniques. In this contribution, we describe a continuous membrane reactor design that selectively permeates the ethylene byproduct from metathetical processes, thereby overcoming the mass-transport limitations that have negatively influenced the efficiency of this transformation

A range of environmentally conservative solvents was evaluated for application in olefin metathesis. Different commercially available and most frequently applied ruthenium catalysts were employed. The data obtained can be used as a guide to facilitate replacement of environmentally detrimental chlorinated or aromatic solvents with greener reaction media in order to make applications of olefin metathesis in both industry and academia more environmentally benign and sustainable processes.

The present invention refers to novel ruthenium-based catalysts for olefin metathesis reactions, particularly to fast initiating catalysts having stereoselective properties. In olefin metathesis reactions, the disclosed catalysts provide a high catalytic activity combined with the capability to generate higher yields of the olefin metathesis product.
