We report an efficient synthetic approach for well-designed organic-bridged alkoxysilanes, which allow the formation of highly functional organosilica hybrids under mild sol gel conditions. A series of molecular building blocks containing a triisopropoxysilyl group were synthesized and used in cross-coupling reactions. The triisopropoxysilyl group showed a good tolerance for various organic transformations. 1,4-Diketo-3,6-dithienylpyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-bridged triisopropoxysilane was successfully prepared, allowing rapid formation of organosilica hybrid without loss of functionality under mildly acidic conditions. Functionalized aryl and heteroaryl zinc reagents were prepared from aryl iodides and diethylzinc through t-Bu-P4 base-promoted iodineâzinc exchange reactions. The scope and limitations of this protocol, and several applications for the synthesis of oligoaryls and fused aromatics, are presented.
Br/Mg-exchange reaction using reagents of the general formula R2Mg (R = sBu, Mes). Highly sensitive functional groups, such as triazene or nitro, are tolerated in these exchange reactions, enabling the synthesis of various functionalized (hetero)arene and alkene derivatives after quenching with several electrophiles including allyl bromides, acylchlorides, aldehydes, ketones, and aryl iodides.

MIDAboronates are among the most useful reagents for the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction. This chemistry typically generates new bonds between two aromatic rings, thereby restricting access to important areas of chemical space. Here we demonstrate the coupling of MIDAboronates to allylic electrophiles, including a new synthesis of the well-known COX inhibitor ibuprofen.
