A method for improving at least one property of a fuel composition comprises deriving a fuel composition from vegetable oil and/or animal oil and blending the fuel composition with alkyl levulinate(s) to provide a fuel composition blend. The alkyl levulinate(s) are selected and blended in an amount sufficient to have the fuel composition blend exhibit improvement relative to the fuel composition in at least one property.
