Fluorination of perfluoroalkyl-pyridines, -pyrimidines, and -pyrazines, using cobalt trifluoride, gave corresponding aza- and diaza-cyclodienes, in some cases in high yields. Perfluoroalkylpyridazines gave products arising from loss of nitrogen and provide a novel route to some highly crowded perfluorinated olefins. ring opening to an azatriene. Similarly, the perfluoro-di-isopropyldiazacyclohexa-1,4-dienes (7) and (10) undergo a retro [π4 +π2] process and, in one case, a diazatriene (11) was isolated. Conversions of some apparently similar systems did not occur.

Products obtained from the photolysis of perfluorinated derivatives of aza- and diaza-cyclohexadienes show that a variety of skeletal processes occur including ring-opening, fluorine migration, and retro-Diels-Alder reactions.

The anion generated by addition of CsF to perfluoroaza-cyclohexene is very stable in sulpholane. Reaction of CsF with perfluoro-4-isopropylazacyclohexa-1,4-diene gives a less-stable anion and its behaviour with temperature is described.
