    Transesterification catalyzed by iron(III) β-diketonate species
    摘要:
    A practical and clean protocol for transesterification catalyzed by a 5 mol % cheap, non-toxic and moisture stable Fe(acac)(3) or other iron(III) beta-diketonate species in solvent, such as heptane under azeotropic condition is developed. A remarkable rate enhancement was observed upon the addition of 5 mol % of an inorganic base, such as Na2CO3, which suggests that faster formation of a dimeric mu-alkoxy-bridged iron (III) species under alkaline conditions facilitates catalytic turnover. This system provides smooth transesterification over a wide range of structurally diverse esters and alcohols without disturbing functional groups. In addition, the use of iron beta-diketonate complexes as catalysts is more environmentally friendly, safer, and economical than other transition-metal catalysts. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate that the active catalyst is likely a dimeric mu-alkoxy-bridged iron(III) species, as determined by X-ray crystallography of [Fe(dbm)(2)(O-n-Bu)](2) derived from the alcoholysis of Fe(dbm)(3) under alkaline conditions.     Dihydronepetalactone, a minor natural constituent of the essential oil of catmints ( Nepeta spp.) such as Nepeta cataria , has been identified as an effective insect repellent compound. Synthesis of dihydronepetalactone may be achieved by hydrogenation of nepetalactone, the major constituent of catmint essential oils. This compound, and compositions thereof, which also has fragrance properties, may be used commercially for its insect repellent properties.

    A lube oil composition which is suitably used for diesel engines which exhaust large amounts of sulfur dioxides (SOx). The composition exhibit excellent corrosion/wear preventive properties against SOx. The lube oil composition of the invention for diesel engines includes a lube oil base having a kinematic viscosity of 8-35 mm2/s at 100°C; a component (A) which is a compound selected from the group consisting of over based sulfonates of alkaline earth metals, over based phenates of alkaline earth metals, and over based salicylates of alkaline earth metals; and a component (B) which is a bis-type succinic imide compound having an absorption ratio, α/β (wherein α is the intensity of an absorption peak at 1550±10 cm-1 and β is the intensity of an absorption peak at 1700±10 cm-1), of absorption peaks in an IR spectrum of not more than 0.005.
