The mixed metal oxide ZnFe2O4 nanopowder, a dual Lewis acid–base combined catalyst is found to efficiently catalyze a multicomponent synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridines from aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate, and ammonium acetate in water.
