O-methyltransferases (O-MTs) and halide methyltransferases (HMTs) was developed for the regioselective SAM (S-adenosylmethionine)-dependent methylation of an array of O-methylated catechols, tetrahydroisoquinolines and indole. This was further complemented by investigations into alternative SAM regeneration methyl donors which are less toxic and environmentally damaging than methyl iodide (SAH is S-adenosylhomocysteine)
