    New Insights into the Photoreactivity of the Organophosphorus Pesticide Fenthion:  A σ Aryl Cation as a Key Intermediate in the Photodecomposition
    摘要:
    The primary photodegradation processes of fenthion (FN), one of the most photosensitive pesticides used in agriculture, have been investigated by combining laser flash photolysis and steady-state measurements. The triplet state of FN is produced quite efficiently (Phi(isc) similar to 0.3). However, this excited state does not seem to trigger the primary photodecomposition pathways of the pesticide. It is demonstrated that FN undergoes photoheterolysis via the excited singlet state and gives the corresponding singlet "sigma aryl cation". Chemical evidence for the generation of this transient species is given by trapping with typical "sigma nucleophiles" such as chloride and methanol. This photodegradation mechanism is, in part, quite different with respect to what is known to date and may account for the formation of the O,O-dimethyl S-[3-methyl-4-(methylthio)phenyl] phosphorothioate discovered as a novel photodegradation product of FN.

    A shaped chitin body containing a high content of a physiologically active substance, such as a drug to be used for the cure or prevention of disease, is prepared by incorporating said physiologically active substance into a dope comprising (a) a water-insoluble chitin, (b) lithium chloride, and (c) N-methylpyrrolidone and/or dimethylacetamide, with the amount of said physiologically active substance incorporated being 0.5 wt. % or more with respect to the amount of the chitin contained in said dope, and there after coagulating the resulting mixture with a coagulant to obtain a shaped body. The high content of the physiologically active substance thus incorporated in the shaped chitin can be slowly released therefrom over a long period of time. The shaped-chitin of the present invention is characterized by long duration of the physiological activity of the active substance contained therein.

    A composition of matter and method of making the composition which relates to an all aqueous, phase stable emulsion of organophosphorous pesticides which is free of organic solvents. The composition comprises from about 40 to 95 percent by weight of an organophosphorous selected from the group consisting of phosphates, phosphorothioates and phosphorothionates, and mixtures thereof, from about 3 to 10 percent by weight of a nonionic block, heteric, heteric/block copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, from about 3 to 16 percent by weight urea, and about 20 to 50 percent water. The composition is made by blending these components together under moderate agitation.

    The invention relates to a compositions useful in the field of agricultural chemistry and methods for making and using the compositions. The compositions include (i) a permeabilizing agent, and (ii) a active component, for example, a pesticide or plant growth regulator, and can include additional components as well, for example, flow agents. The permeabilizing agent, or a mixture of permeabilizing agents, acts as an adjuvant to the active component or chemicals to improve the degree of efficacy of the active component or speed of action of the active component. The permeabilizing agents are typically one or more chelating agents, cationic materials, anionic materials, and zwitterionic materials, and include polyphosphate salts. Examples of cationic materials include polyamines such as ethylenediamine and quaternary ammonium salts. The active components can be pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, virucides, bacteriocides, and acaricides. Examples of suitable active components include plant growth regulators, defoliators, dessicants, transfection agents, wood treatments (CCA or other chemicals that are effective against termites), traps, disinfectants, marine paints and the like. The compositions can be prepared by mixing the components in a suitable manner, and the compositions can be used by applying the compositions to a plant in need of treatment thereof in an amount effective for the desired use, employing conventional application techniques. In one embodiment, the active components are defoliants, and the composition is used for plant defoliation, for example, with respect to cotton plants.
