    The invention relates to methods of producing male sterile plants by increasing the level of activity of the hydroxyjasmonate sulfotransferase by genetic modification of such plant. Furthermore, the present invention provides methods to restore the fertility of the male sterile phenotype observed in such genetically modified plants by the application of a composition containing at least one jasmonate and an acceptable carrier onto the male sterile flowers.

    The invention relates to the modulation of the size of the tubers in a tuber­producing plant by genetic modification. The tuber producing plant is thereby transformed by introduction into the plant of a sequence encoding for a hydroxyjasmonic acid sulfotransferase, in the sense or antisense orientation. The present invention also relates to the modulation of tuber size by applying to a tuber producing plant stimulators or inhibitors of a hydroxyjasmonic acid sulfotransferase.
