The trans-2-decenoic acid derivative or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof which is the compound of the present invention is specifically represented by the formula (1): (In the formula, Y is —O—, —NR— or —S—, R is hydrogen atom, alkyl group, dialkylaminoalkyl group or the like and W is a substituent such as dialkylaminoalkyl group) and has a quite high usefulness as a pharmaceutical agent such as a preventive or therapeutic agent for dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, depression, etc., a treating or repairing agent for spinal cord injury.

    A novel, efficient, and totally stereoselective synthesis of (E)-α,β-unsaturated primary amides is reported. This process is consistent with a SmI2-mediated sequential reaction of an unmasked samarium chloroacetamide enolate with an aldehyde, followed by a β-elimination to produce (E)-α,β-unsaturated primary amides in good yields.

    The present invention is directed to oil-soluble lubricating oil additives comprising Mannich Base condensates of an alkyl substituted hydroxy aromatic compound with formaldehyde and an amine, wherein the alkyl-moiety of the aromatic compounds is derived from at least one ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer of 300 to 10,000 number average molecular weight, wherein at least about 30% of the polymer's chains contain terminal ethenylidene unsaturation. The Mannich Base condensates of this invention are useful as dispersants.

    The present invention is directed to oil-soluble lubricating oil additives comprising Mannich Base condensates of (A) and ethylene-alpha-olefin polymer substituted mono- or dicarboxylic acid material, (B) an optionally alkyl-substituted N-hydroxyaryl compound, (C) an aldehyde, and (D) an amine, wherein the polyer moiety of the mono- or dicarboxylic acid material is derived from at least one terminally unsaturated ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer of 300 to 10,000 number average molecular weight, wherein the terminal unsaturation comprises ethenylidene unsaturation. The Mannich Base condensates of this invention are useful as dispersants.
