  α-Functionalized ketones can be conveniently prepared in one step by the reaction of ketones possessing α-methene with o-iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) in the presence of potassium iodide. Methyl aryl ketones produced bi-substituted products, whereas the others gave mono-substituted ones.
