Synthesis and characterization of self-assembled monolayers based on redox-active silane compounds on platinum surfaces

A novel alkanesilane (3-triethoxysilyl)propyl-carbamic acid 6-(9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydro-anthracen-1-yloxy)-hexyl ester)(TESA), with a redox-active anthraquinone head group was shown to form self-assembled monolayers on a platinum oxide surface, without the use of a silane coupling agent. The TESA monolayers were characterized by X-ray electron spectroscopy (XPS), reflection–absorption infrared spectroscopy (IRRAS), and electrochemical methods.
