The invention relates to a method for diagnosing an anaphylactic reaction / anaphylaxis in a patient, comprising the steps of determining a concentration of 9α,11β-PGF2 in a sample obtained from said patient; and assigning to said sample a high likelihood of anaphylaxis if said concentration of 9α,11β-PGF2 is above a predetermined PGF threshold (cut-off), particularly a threshold which is at least two standard deviations above a baseline level determined for a population of control patients, wherein said control patients are not suffering from anaphylaxis or a threshold which is equal to or higher than 170 pg/ml.
