    Polyurethane resins are prepared by reacting a high solids polyol-containing component with an isocyanate. containing component. The polyol-containing component comprises the condensation product of a) from about 70 to about 90 parts by weight castor oil and b) from about 5 to about 20 parts by weight pentaerythritol, and, preferably, c) from about 5 to about 30 parts by weigth of a condensation agent having a molecular weight of less than about 400 and selected from the group consisting of polycarboxylic acids having up to about4 carboxyl groups, methyl and ethyl esters of such polycarboxylic acids, and combinations thereof. The solids content of the polyol-containing component is at least about 60% by weight. The resins are used for the preparation of coatings.

    This invention pertains to a process for coating wood or a wood fibres-containing substrate using an oxidatively drying coating composition based on an alkyd resin built up of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, a saturated di- or polyvalent hydroxyl compound and a specific benzotriazole or benzophenone compound. The coating exhibits improved durability and ensures good protecton of the substrate against the effects of ultraviolet radiation.

    The invention pertains to a coating composition having a high solids content and containing an organic solvent with a flash point of at least 55°C, wherein the binder is an oxidatively drying alkyd resin which is built up on the one hand from 30-85 mole % of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid containing 6-24 carbon atoms and 15-70 mole % of a polycarboxylic acid containing 4-36 carbon atoms and on the other hand from 10-80 mole % of a hydroxyl and/or epoxy compound containing an allyl ether group and 20-90 mole % of an at least trivalent hydroxyl compound containing 3-24 carbon atoms, which alkyd resin has a number average molecular weight of 1400-2800, an acid number of 0-30, a hydroxyl number of 0-80 and a solubility parameter of 8,5-11,0 and wherein the organic solvent has a boiling point in the range of from 140°-260°C.

    A crystalline polyolefin composition which provides molded articles having improved stiffness characteristics is disclosed, comprising 100 parts by weight of a crystalline polyolefin, (A) from 0.001 to 1 part by weight of a fluorophosphite compound represented by formula (I): wherein R represents an alkylidene group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a sulfur atom; Ar1 and Ar2, which may be the same or different, each represents an alkylarylene group or a cycloalkylarylene group; and n represents 0 or 1, and (B) from 0.001 to 1 part by weight of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of (1) an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid salt with lithium or sodium, (2) a dithiocarbamic acid salt with lithium, sodium or potassium, (3) a 2-mercaptobenzothiazole salt with lithium, sodium or potassium, (4) a 2-mercaptobenzimidazole salt with lithium, sodium or potassium and (5) a benzotriazole salt with lithium, sodium or potassium.
