In an effort to develop new antimicrobial agents, a series of chalconederivatives, 3-60, were prepared by Claisen-Schmidt condensation of appropriate acetophenones and 2-furyl methyl ketones with appropriate aromatic aldehydes, furfural, and thiophene-2-carbaldehyde in an aqueous solution of NaOH and EtOH at room temperature. The synthesized compounds were characterized by means of their IR- and NMR-spectral
2-Substituted-4-quinolones 2 and the corresponding 2,3-dihydro-2-substituted-4-quinolones 3 have been obtained by reduction with CO at 170 °C and 30 atm of 2-nitrochalcones 1, catalysed by Ru3(CO)12 with DIAN-Me as co-catalyst in ethanol–water.

A library of sixty-five chalcones was prepared for screening against the protein phosphatase, cdc25B. From this library, thirteen compounds were found having good inhibitory activity. Two compounds have excellent activity and can be used for the design of more potent antiproliferative agents.
Synthesis and Binding Activity of Some Pyrazolo[1,5-c]quinazolines as Tools To Verify an Optional Binding Site of a Benzodiazepine Receptor Ligand
The synthesis and binding activity at the benzodiazepinereceptor of some 2-substituted pyrazolo[1,5-c]quinazolines are reported. The structure-activity relationships and in vitro efficacy of the title compounds, which are devoid of the proton acceptor atom at position 1, are similar to those of some previously reported tricyclic heteroaromatic compounds. This suggests that a proton acceptor at position
