The diacetylene-group connected chromatic system of [octaethylporphyrin]-[spacer]-[Lewis base] triads (OEP-SPC-LB) was conclusively studied, in which a trigger-like interaction of the terminal LB with trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) dramatically affects the inherent electronic properties of OEP.
