Cobaltocene reacts very smoothly with benzyl, allyl, and propargyl halides (bromides, iodides, and with some limitations chlorides) to form cyclopentadienyl(1-exo-organylcyclopentadiene)cobalt complexes. Thus, with benzyl chloride, benzyl bromide, trans-3-bromo-1-phenylpropene, and 3-bromo-1-phenylpropyne the new 1-exo-benzyl, 1-exo-(trans-3-phenylallyl), and 1-exo-(3-phenylpropargyl) derivatives of
