The present invention relates to an aldehyde of formula (I) in the form of any one of its stereoisomers or a mixture thereof, and wherein each dotted line, independently from each other, represents a single or double bond; n is 0 or 1; R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl group; and R3, which is a substituent in any of the positions 2 to 6 of the cyclic moiety, represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl group, or a CH2 group bridging positions 3 and 6; and its use as perfuming ingredient, for instance to impart odor notes of the aldehyde, lily of the valley type.
The present invention relates to the perfumery industry. It concerns more particularly an alcohol, ester, ether or ketone derivative having a spiro-type skeleton, the latter being substituted by short alkyl groups. The invention also relates to the use of the invention compounds as perfuming ingredients, able to impart a woody and/or aromatic, as well as to the perfumed articles or perfuming compositions comprising as active ingredient a compound of formula (I).

New processes have been developed which allow the stereoselective syntheses of the ambergris ketals 8α, 13;13,17-diepoxi-14,15-dinorlabdane 1 and 8β,13;13,17-diepoxi-14,15-dinorlabdane 2, through selection of the appropriate catalyst for the δ,ε-epoxycarbonyl rearrangement of the key intermediate 3, which is, in turn, obtained by controlled oxidation of anticopalic acid 6.
