Several derivatives of 2-hydroxypyrazine were prepared containing a phenylcarbinol moiety in the 3-position. A method was developed to prepare these compounds in order to test the efficacy of the basic cyclization reaction between a bifunctional α-amino amide and several 1,2-dicarbonyls.
