    Ethylenically unsaturated monomer solutions containing ethylenically unsaturated polyisocyanurate resins are thickened to moldable non-sticky gels by the formation in said solution of minor amounts of cross-linked polyurethane resin mixtures. These are made by the additions of polyisocyanates and certain low molecular weight polyols and urethane formation catalysts. When these moldable gels are fully cured, their physical properties are nearly equal to those cast from the ungelled polyisocyanurate monomer copolymer.

    A two-part composition comprising as a first part a polymerizable vinyl-type material and a free-radical polymerization system comprising at least one aromatic acyl peroxide and a compound selected from the group consisting of peroxides, hydroperoxides, peresters, persaits and peracids, exclusive of aromatic acyl peroxides; and as a second part a polymerizable vinyl-type material and an accelerator system comprising an amine and optionally either a sulfimide, an hydrazine derivative, or both. The resin systems of each part are substantially similar in rheology and viscosity to optimize the effectiveness of the adhesive composition. The composition combines anaerobic-type cure systems to obtain excellent cure through volume (CTV). The non-anaerobic-type cure system allows for the superior CTV capability over the prior art and is not dependent on metal ion catalysis for cure accleration. making the composition particularly useful on inactive surfaces such as plastics or aluminum.

    This invention relates to a process for modifying a poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl to increase its molecular weight. The process comprises contacting the poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl with at least one modifier having a plurality of moieties that are reactive with the carbonate and/or active hydrogen moieties of the poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl at elevated temperature and at a pressure at which at least one compound other than a monoalkylene glycol, which compound is at least as volatile as a tetraethylene glycol, is removed in the gaseous state from the poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl under conditions such that the molecular weight of the poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl is increased an the poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl backbone or side chain is modified by reaction with the modifier. The modifiers which are suitable for use in the practice of this invention include polyfunctional materials which are reactive with the carbonate and/or active hydrogen moieties of poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahls. Examples of these materials are polyols, polyamines, polyamides, polymercaptans and polyacids. These modifiers are employed in an amount of from 5 to 80 percent by weight based on the weight of the poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl and the modifier. The process of this invention is useful for producting materials for applications in flexible urethane foams, rigid urethane foams, urethane/urea elastomers and plastics, adhesives, functional fluids and surfactants.
