The chlorination of electron rich iodoarenes with MoCl5 proceeds with methoxycarbonylmethyl as the directing group. The transformation is selective and without loss of the valuable iodo substituent.
A palladium-catalyzedcarbonylative Suzuki coupling of methyl 2-(2-iodophenoxy)acetates with arylboronic acids has been developed. The reactions were performed under CO gas-free conditions and the obtained products act as a direct precursor for the synthesis of highly functionalized benzofuran derivatives.
