receptor antagonists and agonists. These compounds are useful in treating central nervous system disorders, such as cognition disorders, anxiety disorders, depression and sexual dysfunction.
The invention relates to a method for producing urethanes or ureas or mixtures of urethanes and ureas by oxidative carbonylation of organic amines in the presence of carbon monoxide, oxygen and a catalyst, where the catalyst used is a transition metal complex containing the structural feature: [Mn+(O˜N˜O)2−](n-2)+(L)m(Z−)n-2 and the method is carried out under halogen-free reaction conditions. The invention further relates to transition metal complexes containing said structural feature and also to the use of such transition metal complexes as catalysts in the production of urethanes or ureas or mixtures of urethanes and ureas.

A process for preparing an aromatic carboxylic acid having a heteroatom containing substituent is provided that includes reaction in a vessel of an aromatic precursor having an aromatic core with at least one heteroatom containing substituent and at least one hydrogen extending from the core, with a haloacetonitrile under reaction conditions to form an aromatic acetonitrile with an acetonitrile moiety. The aromatic acetonitrile is exposed to an oxidizing agent under conditions to convert the acetonitrile moiety to a carboxylic acid group to prepare the aromatic carboxylic acid having the heteroatom containing substituent.

Meta-toluene-diisocyanate is produced by reacting meta-toluenediamine with phosgene in the gas phase. The meta-toluenediamine to be vaporized for use in this phosgenation process must contain less than 0.5 wt. % of toluenediamine residue, a total of less than 0.2 wt. % of ammonia and cycloaliphatic amines, and less than 20 ppm of heavy metals. At least 0.1 wt. % of the liquid meta-toluenediamine being to be vaporized must not be vaporized. This non-vaporized content of the meta-toluenediamine must not be fed to the phosgenation reactor.
