  Processes for the production of chlorinated propenes are provided. The present processes make use of 1,2-dichloropropane, a by-product in the production of chlorohydrin, as a low cost starting material, alone or in combination with 1,2,3-trichloropropane. The present processes can also generate anhydrous HCl as a byproduct that can be removed from the process and used as a feedstock for other processes, providing further time and cost savings. Finally, the processes are advantageously conducted in the liquid phase, thereby presenting additional savings as compared to conventional, gas phase processes.

  The invention provides a photochromic dye of a structure containing a common structure of spirooxazine series compounds and three substituents. The photochromic dye according to the invention exhibits characteristics of a high heat stability, good light fatigue resistance, high sensitivity, extremely degradation rate and the like. This photochromic dye can be formulated with suitable organic solvents and used as photochromic functional colorants under UV light excitation. Further, this photochromic dye can be synthesized and purified in simple steps with cheap raw materials and hence at a greatly lowered production cost.

  Chlorination of propyne at 70 °C. gave 60 to 65% yields of 1,1,2,2-tetrachloropropane and 15 to 20% yields of trans-1,2-dichloro-1-propene. 1,1,2,2-Tetrachloropropane-d₄ was similarly prepared from propyne-d₄. Nearly theoretical yields of cis- and trans-1,2-dichloro-1-propene were obtained by partial dechlorination of tetrachloropropane. Deuterated cis- and trans-1,2-dichloro-1-propene were obtained in the same manner from 1,1,2,2-tetrachloropropane-d₄.
