Anthracene assembled hydrocarbon: The title aromatic hydrocarbon having four anthracene units was synthesized by the McMurry coupling of di(1-anthryl) ketone in 65 % yield. The X-ray and DFT calculations revealed that the molecule took a C2 symmetric structure with the ap conformation about the C(sp3)−C(sp3) single bond and a pair of stacked anthracene units.
