The present invention relates generally to the field of liquid crystal display devices and more particularly to a liquid crystal display device operating in vertically aligned mode (VA-mode) in which liquid crystal molecules having a negative dielectric anisotropy are aligned generally perpendicularly to a panel surface of the liquid crystal display.
