  5-Alkyl(aryl)-3-arylidene-3H-pyrrolin-2-ones were synthesized by ammonolysis of their O-heteroanalogs or by the reactions of 5-alkyl(aryl)-3H-pyrrolin-2-ones with aromatic aldehydes. The structures of the compounds obtained were confirmed by H-1 NMR spectra.

  Previously unknown dispiropyrrolidines were synthesized by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylide to 3-arylmethylidene-3De-furan-2-ones. The cycloaddition reaction was demonstrated to proceed diastereoselectively through an endo-transition state. Alternative transition states for the reaction are discussed.
