    Described herein are the preparation and use of novel bromo- phosphonomethylphenylalanine amino acid derivatives (BrPmp) and BrPmp-containing peptides as specific, irreversible protein tyrosine phosphatase inhibitors, which are suitable for application in peptide synthesis. These derivatives are particularly advantageous since their synthesis is both easy and scalable, and they are suitable for peptide synthesis. The BrPmp derivatives described herein can be appropriately protected to allow for solid phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) and incorporation into peptides for preparation of protein tyrosine phosphatase inhibitors and inhibitor libraries. The peptides and peptide libraries can be used to identify new protein tyrosine phosphatase specific sequences and profile protein tyrosine phosphatase activity in cell lysates, diagnostic samples and biopsy samples.

    A compound represented by the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are the same or different and each is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group or an optionally substituted hydroxy group; R 3 is an optionally substituted aromatic group; R 4 is an optionally substituted amino group; L is a divalent chain hydrocarbon group; Q is a bond or a divalent chain hydrocarbon group; and X is a hydrogen atom, a cyano group, a nitro group, an acyl group, a substituted hydroxy group, an optionally substituted thiol group, an optionally substituted amino group or an optionally substituted cyclic group; provided that when X is an ethoxycarbonyl group, then Q is a divalent chain hydrocarbon group. The compound has a peptidase inhibitory action, is useful as an agent for the prophylaxis or treatment of diabetes and the like, and is superior in efficacy, duration of action, specificity, lower toxicity and the like.

[Solution] A polymer electrolyte composition that comprises at least an ionic group-containing polymer (A), an organic phosphorus-based additive (C), and a nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic ring system additive (D) and that is characterized by the nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic ring system additive (D) comprising at least three nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic rings within a molecule thereof. In addition, the polymer electrolyte membrane, the catalyst layer-equipped electrolyte membrane, the membrane-electrode assembly, and the solid polymer fuel cell of the present invention are characterized by being configured using the polymer electrolyte composition.
