Unusual carbonyl adducts, Mes2BCH=CHCHCH3CRR1OH, were obtained by sequential treatment of ethyldimesitylborane with mesityllithium (<1.0 equiv.) and carbonyl compounds instead of the normal adducts, Mes2BCHCH3CRR1OH.
