Structure and magnetic properties of a novel heteroheptanuclear metal string complex [Ni<sub>3</sub>Ru<sub>2</sub>Ni<sub>2</sub>(μ<sub>7</sub>-teptra)<sub>4</sub>(NCS)<sub>2</sub>](PF<sub>6</sub>)
A novel heteroheptanuclear metal string complex was synthesized by using nickel and ruthenium metal ions to explore the electronic structure and magnetic property.
A heptachromium(II) metal chain helically wrapped by four all-syn type teptra3– ligands with delocalized CrII–CrII–CrII–CrII–CrII–CrII–CrII multiple bonds is found in the complex [Cr7(µ7-teptra)4Cl2]. The band structure of a hypothetical one-dimensional chromium string based on this structure is calculated and shows metallic behavior for the string structure.
