Group 4 metal complexes comprising an indenyl group substituted in the 2 or 3 position with at least one group selected from hydrocarbyl, fluoro-substituted hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyloxy-substituted hydrocarbyl, dialkylamino-substituted hydroacrbyl, silyl, germyl and mixtures thereof, said indenyl group further being covalently bonded to the metal by means of a divalent ligand group, catalytic derivatives thereof and their use as olefin polymerization catalysts are disclosed.

Catalyst systems and methods for making and using the same are disclosed. In an example, a method of synthesizing a monocyclopentadienyl compound is provided. The method includes melting a dicyclopentadienyl compound including the following structure: (A). As used herein, M is hafnium or zirconium. Each R is independently an H, a hydrocarbyl group, a substituted hydrocarbyl group, a heteroatom group. Each X is a leaving group selected from a halogen or a heteroatom group. A reaction melt is formed by adding a metal salt including the following structure: (B). A monocyclopentadienyl compound is deposited from a vapor formed over the reaction melt, wherein the monocyclopentadienyl compound includes the following structure: (C).

The present disclosure relates to ansa-metallocene catalyst compounds that include (1) a first indenyl ligand substituted at the 3-position with a substituted or unsubstituted C4-C40 hydrocarbyl group, wherein the hydrocarbyl group is branched at the β-position, and (2) a second indenyl ligand substituted at its 3-position with a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group or a β-branched alkyl group. Catalyst systems prepared with the catalyst compounds, polymerization methods using such catalyst systems, and polyolefins made using the polymerization methods are also described.
Catalyst systems and methods for making and using the same. A method of methylating a catalyst composition while substantially normalizing the entiomeric distribution is provided. The method includes slurrying the organometallic compound in dimethoxyethane (DME), and adding a solution of RMgBr in DME, wherein R is a methyl group or a benzyl group, and wherein the RMgBr is greater than about 2.3 equivalents relative to the organometallic compound. After the addition of the RMgBr, the slurry is mixed for at least about four hours. An alkylated organometallic is isolated, wherein the methylated species has a meso/rac ratio that is between about 0.9 and about 1.2.

Previous work on bis(indenyl)chromium(II) complexes substituted with bulky groups (i-Pr, t-Bu, SiMe3) found that their spin state (S = 1 or 2) depended on the symmetry of the molecules.
