hydrolysis. With molar proportions of these reagents inseparable mixtures of mono- and di-substituted compounds were obtained. The lithio-derivatives were converted into the methyl derivatives with dimethyl sulphate, and also underwent thermal elimination of LiCl to give the corresponding arynes.
