  Treatment of aliphatic ketones with ethyl diazoacetate in the presence of a catalyst results in the regio- and (where appropriate) diastereoselective formation of enol ethers which arise by an intramolecular 1,4-hydrogen shift from an intermediate carbonyl ylide.
