  A process of the preparation of the salts of N,N'-disubstituted ethylenediamine-N,N'-diacetic acid derivatives of the formula (IA), by alkylation of N-substituted glycine derivative of the formula (II) with 1,2-dichloroethane; and a process the preparation of acid addition salts of the formula (IB), by acidification of the salt of the formula (IB) with a suitable acid; and the use of the salts of the formula (IA) and (IB) thus obtained in the preparation of iron(III) or zinc(II) chelates.   The present invention is directed to Mannich condensation product sequestering agents or mixtures of Mannich condensation product sequestering agents for use in fuels and lubricating oils.
