strategy for hypervalentchalcogenonium⋅⋅⋅πbondingcatalysis using trisubstituted selenonium salts as electrophilic chalcogen bond donors and alkenes as chalcogen bond acceptors is reported. 1,2-Oxaselenoliums can activate π-systems in three classes of metal-free cyclization and addition via unconventional seleniranium intermediates. The counter anion has a significant effect on catalysis.
